WHAT TO WEAR: Winter

Hello 2016 (cue confetti guns)! At the beginning of the year, we’re usually all bright eyed with hopeful hearts and excited for what a new year might bring. After holiday feasts and nearly a month of Netflix and “treat yo self” munching, we are-or at least I am-finally returning to our respective grinds from the butt imprint on the couch.

January is the month for resetting, for being motivated and organized. That said, this Fashionista’s outfit from Simon Fraiser University says you’re ready to get down to business and perfect for heading back to school and running errands. It also illustrates CollegeFashionista’s “January Mood: Clean Slate,” which is all about sporting whites and light colors to start off fresh.

The outfit includes a long cable knit cardigan over a basic white T-shirt on the top and distressed denim and a pair of flats on the bottom, which are matched with a similarly colored scarf. Look more closely, you’ll find that there are also white-based nails and gold rings to complement. The neutral color scheme is similar to some of the best street style looks of 2015 (for example Giorgia Tordini) as well as some of Phil Oh’s fashion week outfits for spring 2016 (for instance Leigh Lezark and Rei Shito.) It’s clean, comfortable and laid back but not at all lazy especially with the rolled-up cuffs of the denim.

One Simple Change: This look is not only simple but also very universal and versatile as it serves as a great base to be easily styled up by addition of any accessory. Add a beret for causal business lunch (depending on your industry, of course), or a floppy hat for brunch; replace the scarf with a statement necklace and the flats with a pair of ankle strap heels or a pair of neutral mules for a girl’s night out—the list for this outfit is endless.
