WHAT TO WEAR: Winter

Back to school often means returning to a colder climate than we left behind for the fall semester. Class starting, new clubs and a reinvigorated social calendar call for a great outfit to wear in transit. But we’ve got to face it, it’s much more difficult to pull off total chicness in the cold. It’s a tried and true rule, layering is the way to go. However, there’s a better way to do it than a cardigan on cardigan on tank on scarf. Layering clean and bold pieces makes a warm outfit without clutter. This Fashionista pulls it off perfectly with an ultra fuzzy, chunky knit and a clean cut jacket.

Wearing a slew of Madewell, this Fashionista layers it with perfect ease. A cropped turtleneck with a structured two tone coat makes the base for her cozy, but cool outfit. These are great ways to stay protected from the low temperature and chilling winds without being overdone or clunky. Statement rings and great booties are a great way to tie together a simple outfit. The great thing about having simple layers is that you can peel them off to adjust for the temperature, but because they aren’t bulky you won’t be removing half of your outfit to deal with classroom heating.

One Simple Change: Skip the shirt under longer shirt under cardigan under jacket under coat, and go for one really great thick sweater under a super chic and structured coat. Go for an interestingly colored or textured sweater to make the outfit pop. Complement the sweater by pairing it with your jeans as a dark base. As shown by this Fashionista’s outfit, a real pro tip is to match your booties to your jeans to make your legs look miles long.
