Ah, the first week of spring semester. The title “spring semester” alone indicates that as soon as all of us students return back to school after a long winter vacation we’ll instantly be greeted by a campus that is full of greenery, sunshine, flowers and warmth. We’re under the mental assumption that the freezing days of our holiday break (in which we essentially spent 24/7 hibernating on our couches wearing pajamas and eating cookies in order to avoid the cold outside) will feel like forever ago, and we will once again be able to walk around comfortably in our shorts and sandals.
Well, Fashionistas, if you go to school in Ohio (as I do), you quickly find out that this fantasy almost never comes true at the very start of spring semester. That’s why for the first week, it’s absolutely crucial to pile on a few more layers.
Take this Fashionista for example. For the first week back she chose to wear a light blue floral dress with white patterned tights and white loafers. Layered on top were a camel-colored coat along with a white infinity scarf and beanie.
It was clear that she was spot on with her sartorial choices for Welcome Week for a couple reasons. One being, she dressed smartly. She realized that though a change in the chilly temperatures outside now feels extremely due for, it is technically still winter. Because of this, she kept her look practical by integrating a few needed layers. Another reason is that she took pastels and made them completely appropriate for the winter. Although the weather is drab this time of year and school can get a little dull, that’s absolutely no reason to gravitate toward black and eschew color altogether. In fact, sporting some fun colors on the first week back can not only make it more enjoyable for you, but it can inspire those around you to start working with their colorful pieces earlier as well.
So, Fashionistas, for your remaining spring semester Welcome Weeks, I fully encourage you to delve into your warm weather clothing and colors. Just remember that a little bit of layering goes a long way because frostbite was never considered to be very trendy.
One Simple Change: If you’re in need of a cute birthday party outfit, swap the flats for a heel or wedge and you’re good to go!
