WHAT TO WEAR: Weekend Wear

June 30th, 2015 at 2:10am

It’s no secret that the weekend is the time to put your best fashion foot forward. There are errands to run, stores to shop in and delicious lattes with your name on them. As Harry Winston once said, “People will stare, make it worth their while.” This is the exact approach this Fashionista took when she took to the streets last weekend.

Her outfit features one of my favorite summer essentials: the kimono. I love this piece because not only is it lightweight but it also comes in a variety of bold prints. A kimono can really add a bold punch to an outfit. Another bonus for kimonos is that they come in various lengths. So for my Fashionistas who are more petite, don’t feel that you can’t pull off this look without tripping over the hem. There are options to accomodate everyone. This Fashionista opted for a floral kimono that pulls together her neutral look. Underneath her kimono, she pairs a classic tan T-shirt tucked in to her dark wash skinny jeans. Her T-shirt and jeans are great staples for a weekend wardrobe because they exude comfort and can be mixed and matched with almost anything in your closet.

Protecting her eyes from the sunshine, our Fashionista is wearing a camel hued hat. This works perfectly with her tan suede booties. Her jewelry is simple with a few silver rings and a turquoise statement necklace. Last but not least, our Fashionista is wearing an oversized leather bag. Oversized bags are the ideal accessory for the weekend because they can conceal summer necessities like water bottles.

When getting ready for a busy weekend, I think it is important to take this Fashionista’s lead and go for layers. No one likes to feel uncomfortable when running around the city especially in the summer. Stores will blast the air conditioning so something like a lightweight kimono can keep you a little warmer when walking from store to store. If you get too hot, take off the kimono. The fabric is often so weightless that it can easily fit in to an oversized bag with no problem.

One Simple Change: The fluttering of this Fashionista’s kimono is perfect for a romantic date night. Swap out the jeans for a chic pencil skirt. The juxtaposition between the straight lines of the skirt complement the free form nature of the kimono making the look irresistibly dreamy.
