WHAT TO WEAR: Weekend Wear

As winter break comes to an end, you’re probably filling your schedule with last-minute meet-ups with friends before you say goodbye until spring break. Whether it’s getting a bite to eat or shopping at your favorite boutique in town, you want to wear an outfit that shows that you are just as stylish as you were when you left for school in August.

For me, cold weather equals layering. For this Fashionista, she seems to think the same; she wore a shaggy faux fur coat over a gray cardigan paired with a burgundy patterned tank. This outfit is perfect for an afternoon in town because the layers can easily be taken off (when inside) and quickly put back on (when outside, fighting the absurdly low temperatures).

When leaving the house, you need your essentials: phone, keys, wallet, makeup bag and possibly a water bottle. This Fashionista opted for a medium-sized kate spade new york satchel (but who wouldn’t?). With a good-sized bag, you can throw in your gloves, hat and sunglasses, in addition to your essentials, and not have to worry about carrying anything by hand or not having enough space. Definitely consider a cross-body or a long/adjustable strap so your arms are fully usable (those racks of clothes aren’t going to go through themselves).

I especially loved this Fashionista’s pairing of ripped boyfriend jeans and Sam Edelman calf-hair slip-ons. I love the boyfriend jean trend—the style is a bit baggier than your average run-of-the-mill skinnies, which means no more so-tight-my-legs-are-purple pants. Sneakers are both comfortable and stylish; swap flats with lace-ups or slip-ons for a casual and chic look (and a guaranteed extra hour of walking). When planning a day out with the ladies, you definitely want to consider a comfortable outfit and, with these trends, style won’t be sacrificed.

One Simple Change: If you want your feet and ankles to be fully covered and warm, try a pair of light-wash skinny jeans with over the knee, mid-calf or furry snow boots.
