Weekends in Oakland are full of possibilities. The city of Pittsburgh is only minutes away, and Pitt students are fortunate enough to be surrounded by many flourishing neighborhoods abundant with unique places to eat, shop, study or just hang out. With this many possibilities, you never know what’s in store for you when you venture out on a Saturday morning.
With that in mind, keep your options open by letting your weekend wear be simple and casual. Weekend nights on campus are often lively, so take a break from your high-heeled boots and perfectly shaped curls during the day and channel this Fashionista’s laid back look.
She caught my eye because I felt she embodied the perfect weekend wardrobe – natural, relaxed and cute. This Fashionista kept things neutral with a tan jacket, a white, knit sweater and black leggings. This basic ensemble is like a blank canvas, and that’s why I love it so much. It’s something anyone can pull off, and it’s so easy and ready to personalize. To support the low maintenance feel of her weekend apparel, she chose to incorporate a slouchy brown bag and a few individual rings on her fingers as accessories.
The thing I loved most about her low-key look was the unexpected pop her thigh-high socks gave her outfit. She wore the socks gathered up around her ankles, which complemented her timeless Dr. Martens. This classic staple is definitely making a comeback, as I’ve seen them here and there during the rise of the combat boot trend.
This Fashionista’s weekend wear would not be complete, however, without the stylish beanie she threw on. Personally, I’ve been spotting this trend around campus, and whether it’s intentional or the result of a bad hair day, I really don’t think you can go wrong by sporting a beanie. Try one with a pop of color if you are looking to make a statement or go neutral if you’re more into the understated look. Each piece within this look is so versatile and full of possibilities, and that’s what makes it perfect for a weekend on any college campus.
One Simple Change: To dress up this look a little, swap the Dr. Martens with a cute pair of booties and add a bold accessory like bright earrings or a statement necklace. Substitute the beanie with a topknot and you’re ready for a casual date night!
