WHAT TO WEAR: Weekend Getaway

What to Wear

As we enter our final months of the school year, weekends start to sound better and better. The thought of getting out in the sunshine for an afternoon walk through SoHo has me fidgeting with my new kate spade new york sunglasses throughout all of class. There’s nothing better than a warm weather weekend to get you excited for the months ahead!

You may be using your weekends for a quick getaway from campus. Maybe you’re visiting friends at another school or checking out a nearby city for a Saturday. This Fashionista is actually doing the opposite. A very recent grad from NYU, she returns to the campus as a graduate student elsewhere to participate in a seminar for a couple of days. Coming into the city and revisiting campus feels like a trip in itself to this stylish post-grad. She dresses well for her “mini weekend” away from her own college campus.

Nothing says city chic like a pair of skinny black jeans. This Fashionista is wearing a light version that looks comfortable and capable of matching anything else in a carry on bag. Today, she pairs it with a classic buttoned chambray shirt. She tucks the shirt in and keeps it buttoned modestly for a more put-together look. The double strand of pearls adds a great dose of class.

Spring weekends can get pretty windy in the city, especially when walking down a large avenue like Broadway or Madison. She keeps things cozy no matter where she wanders in Manhattan with a slouchy beige sweater. The collar makes the piece look like outerwear even though the sweater hangs open. She matches it well with her shoes, a pair of cloth flats that bear the Chanel logo. The Fashionista told me she bought these comfy slip-ons in China!

Her large leather purse has a great structure to it and comes in a rich oak color that matches her hair. I love the gold embellishments. This bag is perfect for a weekend in the city. You can store plenty of essentials in one easy place. And for a weekend in spring, you can’t forget a great pair of sunglasses. Her Ray-Ban aviators fit the bill.

Planning a getaway this weekend? Leave prepared with a pair of staple jeans and a few classic basics. Don’t forget your pearls either! Accessories change up a look while taking little space in the suitcase.

One Simple Change: If spring has a bit of a heat wave, adjust accordingly by swapping the jeans for a classic pair of khaki shorts. Exchange the sweater for a lightweight navy blue cardigan and get ready for weekend errands!
