WHAT TO WEAR: Vacation

Even though summer vacation looks require minimal clothing, does not mean that they don’t require any thought! Summer is actually my favorite season for fashion because of all the fun swimsuits, cute cover-ups and sassy sunglasses! Luckily, I live in a beach town during the summer where I can always dress like I am on vacation and it is not frowned upon.

The Fashionisto pictured above expresses his own personal vacation style with a fun printed button-up and Catch Surf swim trunks. He gets away with mixing prints because the colors complement each other and the prints are different sizes. Since the shirt has such a large, bold print it contrasts well with the small, detailed print of the swim trunks. Mixing prints is something that can really confuse the eye if it is done wrong, but this Fashionisto did it without making his outfit too busy. He is also wearing a simple Catch Surf cap that pulls together his look. If he were to wear a patterned hat, it would probably make his outfit too hectic and would cross the borderline of being tacky. As Karl Lagerfeld once said, “Trendy is the last stage before tacky.”

The Fashionisto’s vacation look is not only fashionable, but it is also functional. Being out in the sun all day on the beach definitely calls for a hat and sunglasses! Not to mention, a stylish hat and sunglasses. A foam visor from the dollar store is not the solution to the constantly beating sun! Also, don’t be afraid to splurge on a nice, trendy pair of sunglasses because you will wear them every single day of your vacation.

Just because this Fashionisto is shoeless, does not mean he is not wearing a fashionable vacation outfit. Wearing shoes is optional here in this beachy town and most places you go into have signs that say, “no shoes, no shirt, no problem.” I want to emphasize the fact that you do not need tons of articles of clothing to make a fashion statement. A swimsuit and sunglasses can still portray your fashion sense and personality to the world, so choose wisely!

One Simple Change: Just got finished with a day of fun in the sun and now it is time to go out to dinner? Swap the swim trunks for khaki shorts and put on some shoes!
