WHAT TO WEAR: Traveling

With the holidays approaching at what seems to be record speed, traveling becomes inevitable. Whether it’s commuting across the state back home to your parents house or catching four separate connecting flights post finals, having an outfit planned out that is both comfortable and chic is crucial. Plus, you never know who you’ll run into from high school.

When we think of traveling, there’s no doubt your sweatpants are calling your name. I mean, who doesn’t love to literally have an excuse to wear pajamas? Of course, we all know for a fact that if you look good, you feel good. There’s nothing like walking through that airport or train station knowing those double takes are not because you look like you just rolled out of bed. Celebrities such as Gigi Hadid are currently trending for having the most on-point traveling outfits not because they’re decked to the nines, but because they’ve found a way to mix chic pieces with casual wear to make comfort look stylish as ever.

The first step into getting the perfect traveling outfit is to layer like crazy. Layers provide a back up plan for outfits, as they can be used to cozy up on chilly planes and can be taken off in stuffy busses. In addition, these layers can easily be bundled up and used as a pillow for longer commute times. Score! Pairing layers that can be styled around the waist or around the shoulder, such as lightweight sweaters, gives the layers their own touch of style and definitely livens up the look as a whole. Nothing says, “I should be in first class” like a sweater tied around your shoulders. Larger coats work as great layers as well, depending on the weather you’re traveling to. The nice thing about wearing large coats is that you basically can be wearing pajamas underneath. No one will ever know! Except maybe during security…

Second, sneakers are a no-brainer. Some opt for flip-flops or sandals, but sometimes that airplane floor can get gross, and having your feet protected from germs is just a safer route to go. This Fashionista styled her adidas Superstars with an edgier vibe while still staying fairly casual. Her comfortable ripped jeggings allow for movement and style, and her sweater and shirt add for that perfect black and white contrast needed to make the shoes stand out. Plus, a rad leather backpack never hurt anyone.

One Simple Change: Going straight from airport to dinner plans? Simply pack a pair of high heels or ankle boots and leave them accessible in your luggage. Once you’re out of the woods, (shout out to T-Swift), swap out your spare pair of shoes for your sneakers and your look will instantly go from laid-back to ready-to-party. Your family and friends will never know you made the swap, and you’ll be giving off serious super-model vibes.
