WHAT TO WEAR: Traveling

Not all travelers are created equal. This is a simple fact I realized rather quickly once I arrived in Italy for my semester abroad. It takes a special type of person to be able to lug around a 20-pound backpack and still look chic while doing so. A certain degree of comfort and practicality is essential when traveling, especially on days when walking is your primary form of transportation. This does not necessarily mean, however, that a hoodie and leggings are your only wardrobe options.

When I saw this Fashionista after touring the Roman Forum, I knew that she had managed to strike a balance between comfort and style. Her choice of pants is ideal for traveling because the dark wash is versatile enough to create endless outfits and the skinny-fit is flattering and contrasts with the flowy shape of her shirt. This Fashionista’s striped top adds the right amount of flare and dimension to the look, while the straw hat, big sunglasses and minimal jewelry accessorize the outfit with some European influence and keep things from looking too basic. Her slip-on shoes are hassle-free and appropriate for walking the often uneven stone streets throughout Italy. This outfit is ideal not only for Italy’s warmer climate during the fall, but also for visiting churches and other religious sites.

One Simple Change: Did you just land an internship for the fall? An outfit like this can easily be turned into a look that is perfect for internship season by adding a structured blazer in a trendy fall color, like Marsala or Amethyst Orchid. The structure of the blazer lends an air of professionalism, while the bold color keeps the look interesting and fashion-forward.
