WHAT TO WEAR: Summer

Nothing beats the comforting feeling of sand between your toes, the wind off Lake Michigan and the warm sun shining down. Although we only get to enjoy the beautiful weather and the lovely outdoors for a few months in the Midwest, it’s totally worth it. Besides, John Mayer really said it best—”cause a little bit of summer’s what the whole year’s all about.”

There are so many fun things to do outside in the summer: bike rides, flea markets, concerts and of course, the beach. Not only can you tan to a perfect crisp while you’re there, but you can also get your exercise in for the day by going on a nature hike or for a dip in the lake. There are so many outfits you can wear during this season and tons of opportunity to mix and match your favorite pieces.

Wearing light colors is essential for summer survival. Otherwise, you’ll feel like you’re about to combust with the extra heat absorption from dark clothing. This Fashionista does it right with her airy and white three quarter sleeved top. White is the perfect summer color because it will keep you cool and enhance your sun-kissed tan. Her flared sleeves are also a nice detail and gives the shirt a chic and feminine vibe.

Although it’s easy to just throw on a pair of running shorts when you’re hanging out in the summer, this Fashionista opted with a flowy, floral pair. The vibrant colors and pattern are eye-catching and will cause heads to turn for all the right reasons. Cotton shorts are especially nice in the summer since they’re not as restricting as denim and give your legs lots of room to breathe.

Now when it comes to accessorizing in the summer, I find minimization to be key. There’s no need to go overboard and wear outlandish pieces when you can easily sport a few layering bracelets or stackable rings and still have an awesome look. This beach expert kept her adornment down to just a necklace, bracelet and classic pair of Ray-Bans: the true summer essentials. She even wore proper footwear and chose a desert colored pair of Birkenstocks. These shoes are a great investment for the warm weather and will last for many summers to come. Remember this summer expert’s look while you’re planning your next beach day!
