WHAT TO WEAR: Summer

July 22nd, 2016 at 2:00am

Summertime is in full swing. Philadelphia flourishes in the summer months as it beckons residents and visitors alike with opportunities to explore and connect with the city’s past and present. One thing I adore about the city of brotherly love is that it’s almost completely accessible by foot. From Fairmount to Rittenouse to Olde City, all of Philadelphia’s major neighborhoods are a walkable distances from one another. Therefore, my friends and I do a lot of walking in the summer, which can make your look go from sleek to sweaty in about 10 minutes flat.

This Fashionista’s effortlessly cool summer ensemble is perfect for trekking around the city. Her classic T-shirt and denim short combo is a fool-proof look that never goes out of style. The addition of an understated necklace, choker and pair Dr. Martens give her outfit some personality and edge. The shoes and bag are key components of this Fashionista’s summer suit. It’s a no-brainer, if you’re going to be adventuring on foot, comfortable shoes are a must. Her boots attribute to her look’s overall laid-back and easy-going feel. Carrying a big bag, whether it’s a tote or backpack, is another essential for long, summer days in the city. This black leather bag complements the texture and edginess of her shoes. The flower bouquet is a souvenir of our wanderings through a market in Rittenhouse Square. The sunflowers and lilacs, along with this Fashionista’s cropped T-shirt, give her outfit a pop of color.

One Simple Change: Summer may be in full swing, but fall is on the horizon. You could transition this Fashionista’s outfit into a cool weather ensemble by adding a vintage flannel, leather jacket or chunky knit sweater.
