WHAT TO WEAR: Summer

July 5th, 2016 at 2:00am

The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year when it comes to daylight and for most people, it marks the start of summer and the beginning of warmer days. With that in mind, maxi dresses should be part of your go to summer wardrobe. Some of you may not like wearing maxi dresses in the summer, after all they cover your legs, but trust me when I say fabric weight makes all the difference.

This Fashionista does the trend justice in her maxi length backless dress with a ruffled bodice. The light weight fabric dances softly in the wind of the summer’s day making it easy, breezy and perfect. She brings in a boho vibe with these Greek-inspired sandals from American Eagle Outfitters that make this look summer casual. The open back allows this dress to be great for warmer weather especially with the emergence of backless dresses this spring and summer, which is one of my favourite trends.

On colder days, the simplicity of this dress allows it to be worn easily under your favourite jacket. This Fashionista brought her style into play with a heavier dark wash denim jacket that goes effortlessly with the dark brown boho shoes. It’s easy to pair a classic piece, such as this denim jacket, with any trendy item you have in your wardrobe.

With the elegant mesh bodice on this maxi dress, keeping accessories simple is important. This will allow you to enhance the look without taking away from the dress. This is exactly what this Fashionista does by adding only a simple ring for her jewelry.

What I love about this outfit is the way this Fashionista coordinates everything really well to create her own style, from the blue on the ring to the blue on the shoes, this Fashionista does some beautiful colour coordination. By keeping it simple with the colours, this Fashionista channels her own style showing how simple accessories can be, and still allow you to have a classy look.

One Simple Change: From a warm day to a cool evening, you can take this light weight maxi dress easily to your favourite concert. I know Coachella has already passed but there are many summer concerts right around the corner. As long as you’re not rocking out, this dress can be worn with a comfortable pair of booties, some chic sunglasses and your favourite boho fedora.
