WHAT TO WEAR: Summer

One of my favorite parts of the summer is that it is the season of outdoor festivals. This past weekend was my college town’s annual Arts Festival. It was such a beautiful event in which we celebrated a cornucopia of our local artists.

As I was walking about, going in and out of each tent, I bumped into this awesome Fashionista. Her outfit really captured my attention by the way it lit up like fire in the sunlight. Her wide-leg pants gave her look a gorgeous pop of color as it played with the sun’s rays. With that as her statement piece, I liked that she kept everything else very simple. The rest of her outfit was settled with black, but when you looked closer, you could see that she was covered in subtle gold accents that helped to highlight her pants. It was very well put-together.

Her outfit was completely appropriate for this occasion, because on a hot, summer day wandering around, you want to wear something breezy. In that, she opted for the boho-hippie trend, which gave her outfit a very artsy vibe to go with the current atmosphere. But she was also very fashion-forward in that the type of accessories she chose to wear—the obtuse necklace, the leather watch and the shoulder bag—added a bit of sophistication to her aura. Otherwise, I would have expected an arm-full more of bracelets, no watch and a more loosely structured necklace and bag to complete her boho-hippie look.

One Simple Change: From a day at the Arts Festival to a night out in town, I would simply switch her crop tank for a black, long-sleeve top and add long statement earrings. To accentuate her face, I would then put her hair up in a high sock bun and finish things off with some burgundy wine lipstick.
