WHAT TO WEAR: Summer

Summer is officially in full swing, which means both temperatures and hemlines are rising. As a fan of layering and fall style, it’s always been a struggle to put together outfits I feel are completely “me” in the summer heat. Last summer, after a New York City heatwave forced me to hang up my denim jacket for fear of passing out on the subway, I took a trip to American Apparel, where I stumbled upon what may be the most important summer style staple known to mankind. Yes, ladies, the shift dress. I bought three different prints and just like that my style sanity was restored.

This Fashionista knows the summer heat is no match for the flowy, wonderfulness that is the shift dress. Her frock of choice packs a floral punch that turns heads while staying breezy. When wearing a simplistic shape, I recommend choosing a pattern or print to keep things interesting. It’ll assure a comfortable go-to for the dog days of summer that doesn’t leave you feeling at a loss for style points. Bold patterns mean less emphasis on accessorizing and less emphasis on accessorizing means more time spent out and about making the most of your summer. It’s really a win-win sort of deal. To keep the focus on the dress, she accents her look with delicate jewelry to stay minimalistic. The choice of some simple bracelets and dainty wire ring add to the easygoing vibe of the summer ensemble. This Fashionista’s pair of simple black flats and leather tote are both classic pieces you can’t go wrong with in any season.

One Simple Change: Flats may be the practical choice of shoe for daytime, but when it comes to date night it’s time to amp things up a bit.  All this look needs to become perfect for a summer night out with your bae is a cute pair of strappy sandals.
