WHAT TO WEAR : Study Group

What to Wear

Study groups are a brilliant idea theoretically, but they can be deadly if you don’t know how to work within them. One strategy is for every individual to choose a role and to stick with it. You have the planner who tells everyone where and what time to meet, then arrives at the café with planned tasks to complete. Then there is always that one friend who does just enough to get by. This week’s Fashionista has on the perfect ensemble to play the role of the mom of the group. Because moms have the best style, and they’re also key players in a successful study group.

The traditional mom outfit is based around the mom jeans. But fear not, this can be done with a fashion-forward eye. Our Fashionista has on a pair in classic indigo, high-waist to hit right at her navel and cuffed to expose ankles longing for some sunshine. For a pair inspired by this fit but tailored for a more put together look, try the Petit Standard Jeans from A.P.C. The next element is the flowy blouse. Our Fashionista has one with large front pockets to store all kinds of knick knacks, because the mom of the group is prepared for anything. Look to Free People for a boho top with a fun print. As for the shoes, our Fashionista allows herself more freedom to stray outside of the mom role. She has on a pair of white western-inspired slip-ons to add some personality to this universal role that not everyone can pull off, but that every study group needs.

One Small Change: Instead of denim, pull on a pair of light trousers for a semi-casual career fair.
