WHAT TO WEAR: Staying Cool Yet Stylish for Your First Day of Classes

When the first day of September arrives, all I want to do is throw on a sweater and chug a pumpkin spice latte. Unfortunately, the brisk weather doesn’t start as early as I’d like it to. Deciding on what to wear for the first day of classes is tough—you want to haul your fall clothes out and slip on some boots, but at the same time, it’s 80 degrees outside. Fortunately, my sorority sister and fellow Monmouth student, Brittany Hughes, has nailed the perfect outfit for the first day of a new year, combining stylish trends with weather appropriate choices.

Bodysuits are one of the hottest trends right now, and are perfect for dressing up at night, or down for heading to class. This black LA Hearts bodysuit is super comfortable yet flattering, especially when paired with a classic pair of high waisted denim shorts. Throwing on a light, neutral Brandy Melville cardigan immediately steps the look up from a day at the beach, to the perfect transition from summer to fall.

Brittany knows that accessories can make or break your first day of class look. The long walk from your dorm or the parking lot to your academic building can be not so flattering when you’re squinting in the bright sun. This cute pair of circular shades elevates this look even more, offering it a bohemian vibe. Chokers are one of my absolute favorite ways to accessorize, and Brittany accents her bodysuit stylishly. And who could forget about one of the most important aspects of an outfit—the shoes! Brittany’s super hip Vans sneakers are keep her look casual, yet stylish.

It might still be hot outside, but as September continues to fly by, cool days spent at pumpkin patches and hayrides are fast approaching. Let’s take advantage of this in-between weather to rock outfits like Brittany’s to class—and maybe get our pumpkin spiced latte iced.
