WHAT TO WEAR: Spring Break

What to Wear

Spring break came at the perfect time to get away and escape the valley’s non-stop snowstorms. If you jetted off to Cancun or road tripped to Panama City Beach, it seems as if this spring break is all anyone can talk about. The ocean, sand and endless supply of sunshine is most definitely going to get us college students through the next six weeks of school.

Dressing for spring break is very different than dressing for a family vacation to Puerto Rico. During the day, girls and guys alike are sporting their favorite bathing suits or reppin’ attire from their school or greek organization. When the sun goes down and the town heats up, the streets are crawling with college students who are out and about in their newest outfits purchased for spring break.

High-waisted shorts have become a staple piece in summer wardrobes. They have become wearable in all seasons, depending on fabric and length. This JMU Fashionista is sporting a dark denim pair from Urban Outfitters. Her blank tank crop top from Forever 21 is extremely versatile and can be worn with anything from a patterned skater skirt to a pair of wide-leg pants. Beach towns tend to become chilly at night so that is why her boyfriend mesh cardigan from Garage adds warmth and texture to this simple outfit.

My favorite part of this look is her shoes! These Steve Madden cork wedges are the perfect shoes for summer. These fun and chunky wedges can spice up any plain sundress or a pair of jeans. For accessories, she throws on her Ray-Ban Aviators that can be worn at dinner when the sun is setting or on the top of her head while shopping. With spring break falling on a different week every year, it is sometimes difficult to pack because the weather may vary. Even when you get to your destination the weather may do its own thing. One thing I have learned from traveling is to pack outfits for warm weather and outfits for days when the temperature dips down. A few staples that I always have in my suitcase include a sundress, a pair of jeans, a pair of shorts, a sun hat and a shirt that can be worn with anything. These items will have you spring break ready and able to tackle any fashion challenges you endure during the week!

One Simple Change: Take away the wedges and add a pair of Converse! This is great for running errands or shopping.
