WHAT TO WEAR: Spring Break

What to Wear

For some lucky Fashionistas and Fashionistos, spring break means sun, swimwear and all-inclusive resorts. For the rest of us, it simply means coming home for a week off from lectures and labs. Despite the lack of bikinis and piña coladas, heading home for spring break definitely has its advantages. Not only is it a chance for some home-cooked meals (and maybe even a load of laundry), but it’s also the perfect opportunity to unwind in your hometown.

Spring break at home is about meeting up with high school friends and visiting an old favorite restaurant or vintage shop. When you keep busy like this, there’s no need to be jealous of your beach bound friends, especially when you look as great as this Fashionista. Her camel coat, neutral accessories and silky red pants provide the perfect look for a decidedly metropolitan spring break.

The obvious focal point of her look is her silky red pants. The loose, drawstring bottoms are the perfect complement to her structured coat and the cuffed hems sit beautifully on her ankle booties. Spring break is only one week long, not nearly enough time to visit all your favorite hometown spots, so days are often jam-packed. The pants are the perfect combination of stylish and comfortable, just the thing for a busy day downtown. And of course, I must applaud this Fashionista’s use of color. As temperatures begin to creep above freezing, I can’t wait to spot more bold hues. Spring break is the perfect time to inject some color into your wardrobe.

This Fashionista completed her outfit with neutral pieces, a great counterpart to her colored pants. Still, her neutrals are anything but boring. The structured camel coat, two-toned scarf and roomy leather tote each have interesting details. For exploring your old favorite hangouts, there’s nothing like a few classic pieces. For a spring break spent downtown, the right look is enough to make you forget even the sunniest the beach.

One Simple Change: Swap the camel coat for a printed pullover and you have a great look for the library. Silk pants are super comfortable and a nice change from leggings—perfect for a day of studying.
