WHAT TO WEAR: Spring

Spring can be an awkward season in terms of temperatures. One day it’s sundress weather and the next day you’re wishing you hadn’t already packed up your sweaters for the season. If you’re like me, you’ve been shopping for your spring wardrobe since Black Friday and are very anxious to start wearing your new clothes. How do you wear your warm weather clothes when the weather is not so warm yet? Cardigans and tights are the answers to your prayers, my fellow Fashionistas. Sure, ordinarily tights are worn under skirts and dresses, but who says they can’t be worn under shorts as well? Slip a pair of tights under your new shorts and a colorful cardigan over your new spring blouses and you’ll be able to start making use of your new clothes while still staying warm on chilly spring mornings.

Today’s Fashionista had the right idea. She wore a a pair of high-waisted denim shorts over a pair of black tights. She tucked a loose fitting striped T-shirt into her shorts and layered a pastel yellow cardigan on top. The shorts and pastel aspects of her ensemble were cheerful and totally spring appropriate. Since it was still a little breezy out, wearing tights under shorts was a great choice.

This Fashionista was certainly trying out an edgy trend all the way down to her shoes. I’ve always been a fan of wearing boots and shorts, so personally, I really loved that she wore black combat boots with this ensemble. As already noted, here in Philadelphia, we haven’t quite reached sandal weather yet so for now boots will have to suffice. She successfully pulled off the tights and shorts look and anyone looking to test the waters of this trend should definitely look to her for inspiration.

One Simple Change: Just got hired as an intern for the spring semester? Dress up this Fashionista’s look a little bit and make it perfect to wear to the office. Trade the denim shorts for a pair of silk shorts with a great summer print. Tuck a blouse into the shorts and wear a pair of opaque black tights underneath—but make sure there are no rips! Step into your favorite pair of pumps or wedges, grab your tablet and you’re ready to go!
