I love to shop, but the fact that I can help advise what to wear on a shopping trip almost validates my “shopaholic” status. In all seriousness, though, there definitely is a way to dress that makes your shopping session a successful one.
First tip? Don an outfit like this Fashionista’s and wear a top with your favourite pair of pants or shorts. I suggest this combo because it means that if you want to try on tops, you can instantly see how they look with your most-worn bottoms. If you find a nice T-shirt or tank, trying it on with a random pair of jeans from the racks means you won’t be able to see how it will really look when you get home–to wear it with the rest of your wardrobe. I’m head over heels for this Fashionista’s black and gold ensemble, and I am swooning over her awesome Kenzo jumper. Although it’s a little out of my university student budget, a girl can dream! Plus, a pair of leather panel jeans are a chic addition to a shopping trip because black goes with everything.
Another tip for a successful shopping excursion is to wear a fitted top. If you’re heading to stores on a busy sales day or to a market, you may not get the chance to use the changing room. So if you wear a fitted top, you can easily try on clothes over it, without having to undress in public.
How many of us decided that wearing heels to go shopping was a good idea, yet we died a little inside with every painful step after walking through the automatic doors? Do yourself a favor and wear a pair of comfy shoes, like this Fashionista. Her flat-soled biker boots were great. If you think lace-up boots will be a pain to take on and off in the dressing room, don’t lace them all the way up. The way this Fashionista tied her’s halfway up allowed her to slip them off and pull them back on smoothly. Thus, she did not keep everyone waiting.
If you wear boots, you will likely have your own socks on. Thankfully, as you try on shoes, you won’t have to borrow the gross communal socks or footlets.
I loved that this Fashionista’s pair of kicks matched her backpack. Not only was it studded, but it had a rad embossed skull print, which gave her look a glam-rock edge. Backpacks are great for shopping trips because they can hold you water bottle, wallet, phone and shopping bags, keeping your hands free!
One Simple Change: Since we already have a cute jumper and shirt combo, adding an A-line skater skirt, paired with tights, would give this look a preppy college vibe. This look would be perfect as an outfit to wear to class.
