WHAT TO WEAR: Shopping

What to Wear

Although summer is technically right around the corner, it barely feels like spring ever even made an appearance. Nevertheless, the idea of frolicking around beaches in bikinis and striding through town in a summer dress has never failed to drive me to the mall in preparation for my favorite season.

On a cloudy, overcast day I spotted this Fashionista doing some summer shopping at local boutiques. She was rocking the perfect ensemble for the occasion – a simple, comfortable and universal outfit. The key to a shopping look is one that can be easily taken on and off and can be used as a fundamental base for any pieces you might find. For example, if this Fashionista was shopping for shorts she conveniently has a basic white T-shirt and sandals to get a general idea of how an outfit might look.

This casual yet cozy look can be achieved with pieces that are probably already in your closet, but if you’re looking to update your wardrobe follow this Fashionista’s example with this open-knit cardigan from Forever 21, an extremely versatile piece that can be taken from season to season. The studded sandals worn by this Fashionista shows off my personal favorite accessory – a great tattoo. This studded gladiator pair from American Eagle Outfitters is the perfect summer sandal.

While shopping she donned a few accessories on her wrist such as Alex and Ani bangles and a gold watch. I like the idea of mixing gold and silver jewelry, but if you’re looking for some color try choosing from Alex and Ani’s Moroccan Refuge collection, which provides lots of bright colors for summer.

One Simple Change: This outfit is versatile and can be worn to many occasions including running errands, traveling or to class. Try experimenting with accessories by adding a scarf or donning a shoulder tote with all your personal belongings.
