WHAT TO WEAR: Rainy Day Reds

Everyone at some point has heard the old wives’ tale; rainy days are made for leggings, oversized sweatshirts and clothes that practically swallow you whole. It’s that time of the year again when fall weather rolls in, which in Ohio means cold rain and lots of it. Torrential downpours paired with midterms looming on the horizon make it difficult to find the motivation to roll out of bed and rush to class, let alone look good doing it. However, fall weather and rainy days are one of my favorite fashion inspirations. I love finding new inspiration and experimenting with outfit choices to find unique and functional outfits representative of my personal style while serving the ultimate purpose of keeping me dry on those cold and rainy fall days.

This Fashionista is rocking the rainy day runway with two closet essentials: rain boots and a raincoat that makes a statement. Red is a color of confidence, power and femininity and is also the perfect color to spruce up a cold, dreary day. It provides a sense of mystery and vibrancy that is sure to stand out against dark stormy skies while breathing a new life into your typical “rainy day” wardrobe. Paired with black leggings with small leather accents down the side, this Fashionista reinterprets the idea that rainy days are made for leggings and shows that you can still rock the runway while being comfy and cozy. Black Hunter Boots complete the look by adding function and style. The knee-high boots with a black matte finish are practical for almost any occasion and spruce up just about any rainy day outfit. Hunter Boots are my personal go-to on a rainy day, and when paired with the right jacket, they bridge the gap between style, comfort and function. To top off this look, this Fashionista uses an age-old beauty trick and pairs a smokey eye with red lips. By coordinating her makeup and lip shade with the color of her jacket, she allows her features and personality to truly pop. Makeup is a fashion statement within itself and creates a mood, tone and context for outfits that wasn’t previously known. So next time the rain won’t stop, and you’re debating not going to class, try motivating yourself with some fun and vibrant makeup and make a statement on campus while you walk the rainy day runway.

Always remember, just because the weather is drab doesn’t mean your outfit has to be.
