WHAT TO WEAR: Parent’s Weekend

What to Wear

The weekend rolls toward us as a wave of excitement and while I sat quietly outside of the library café, I couldn’t help but look back on the crazy weeks I’ve had so far. It’s just February in the spring semester and it seems as if it’s been 8 months. At times we get so caught up in the rush of school, sororities, social life and studying that we forget about some of the most important people in our lives: our parents!  Whether your parent’s are just 80 or 800 miles away we still wish they were around to help with the little things, or simply to just get a hug.

I think showing your parents around campus is one of the most essential things for a college student to check off their check list. Even if it’s a local university or college in your hometown or region. Allowing your parents to see where you live, thrive and study is important. Especially if your parents never got the opportunity to do so, and if you have younger siblings headed down too. Set the bar high with a good example of seeing you on campus.

The way to dress during parent’s weekend is summed up in one word in my opinion: conservative. Show your parents that you’re studious, fresh and ready to learn while giving your ensemble it’s own personal twist.

As soon as I spotted this Fashionista strutting down the outside walkway I instantly noticed her adorable ridding boots. Riding boots have been such a trend this fall season, and promises to survive next fall according to Alexander Wang’s fall 2014 runway show. Her gold and navy accents in the outfits not only showed off a not too often seen color combo, but was a great complement to her warm skin tone. Her knitted navy blue jacket hit another high note and was topped off with a playful windswept bun. This outfit had just enough pizzazz for another chilly school day, while staying on the conservative side while the parents are down for a quick visit.

One Simple Change: Follow this season’s trend of layering a comfortable sweater over a dainty little dress along with sandals when the temperatures start to rise again.
