As much as I love seasonal fall clothes, such as boots, darker colors, leather pants, dark lipstick and thick cable-knit sweaters, I’m absolutely positive I love summer clothing even more. There’s nothing more casual chic or more comfortable than a pair of denim shorts and a clean white top. This simplicity allows for more natural beauty to shine. Teeth appear whiter, hair grows faster, everyone has their bangin’ bikini bod and everyone’s tanned skin glows radiantly beautiful. However, in California, we don’t exactly have such distinct seasons. Our naturally warm weather is with us all year round.
I ran into this Fashionista grabbing lunch with a group of friends. She looks adorable and so comfortable on this wonderfully sunny afternoon. She paired a white spiked-detailed top with plain blue denim high-waisted shorts, added a maroon red scarf and some black combat boots. Urban Renewal’s acid wash destroyed denim short or a local seller on Etsy (high-waisted denim shorts) are great shopping options. Find a white top such as Forever 21’s French terry dolman sleeve top or show off with a edgy graphic T-shirt, such as the rock ‘n’ roll muscle tee. Don’t forget to add a pair of sunnies! I’m a die-hard fan of the classic black and gold-rimmed Ray-Ban aviators or perhaps a more elegant option is Dior’s 2012 winter line of oversized sunnies — the black Taffetas.
One Simple Change: In case you’re meeting with the professor, wear some high-waisted denim pants instead of shorts and throw a fitted black or white blazer over. Try some of American Apparel’s easy jean in medium stone-washed indigo or black! I’d recommend a black blazer with black jeans and a crisp white blazer (perhaps with shoulder pads) over denim jeans. Super casual yet a more polished look for a more professional occasion.
