As I see it, my life can be divided into two distinct periods: before MG and after MG. That is of course, before and after Mean Girls—the fateful 2004 blockbuster hit featuring Lindsay Lohan in her pre-breakdown days that helps every young females survive high school. Not only has Mean Girls provided life guidance to Fashionistas/os everywhere, but it has also defined that to this day Fashionistas/os wear pink on Wednesday and has made us all wish that Glen Coco were our best friend.
One particularly memorable scene from my favorite flick follows Lindsay, or Cady, around her new school cafeteria as she is introduced to the particular areas where specific people, or groups of people hang out. The film labels the punks, the jocks, the nerds, the freshmen, the preps and the list continues into unfavorable labels, such as burnouts and desperate wannabes, all defined by what they wear.
Thankfully, university is a bit different than high school, but there are still definitely stereotypes that exist when it comes to style. Outside of the library you can always find the skaters, the smokers and the commerce majors lounging in their suits.
As a Fashionistas, we all differ in our go to style bibles. Some prefer Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar, or maybe you have a celebrity muse you follow on the regular. Just like our style influences rely on a matter of personal choice, this week’s Fashionista shows us how to dress cool and stylish without being pinned to a specific group while on campus. She offers an effortlessly chic look that proves style is your own to play with and define who you are, not by specific labels, and the quad is the perfect place to rock it! Wearing a pair of dark wash Citizen of Humanity Skinny Jeans, a white Club Monaco T-shirt with a light pink moto jacket, she’s prepared for whoever and whatever she may encounter. The moto jacket is a great versatile piece for fall. It has the ability to add a sense of personality to you look and keep you warm as the whether begins to cool down. Not to mention, she hits the nail on the head with fall’s pink trend!
One Simple Change: Throw on a pair of ballet flats or ankle booties to make the outfit style appropriate for meeting with a professor or a casual date.
