As a Style Guru, I end up spending a lot of time outside ambling about the most populated areas of campus, such as the quad, to essentially stare at the outfits of my peers and find those worthy of writing about for CollegeFashionista. (I apologize to anyone reading this who may have once noticed me heavily scrutinizing your outfit in public, causing you to feel a little awkward. I swear I mean well.) This new sense of awareness that I’ve developed over the last couple semesters has also enabled me to pick up on fashion patterns amongst Kent’s students. At this gloomy, cold and seriously snowy time of year, the uniform characteristic of most students’ looks is usually that of a neutral one. It’s impossible to walk around the quad, the esplanade or even downtown without feeling like you’re drowning in an ocean of students wearing black and gray parkas/hats/boots/gloves… Everything.
This Fashionista, however, proved to be somewhat of a lighthouse in this aforementioned ocean of dull-hued looks on the quad. While I’ve actually spotted more navy blue peacoats on campus this winter than ever before, I loved that her particular coat took this trend up a notch by featuring a multicolored floral pattern. Peaking out from beneath the coat was a pair of light blue tights, and she seamlessly balanced out the colorful outfit by accessorizing with brown combat boots and a cream-colored tote.
Her look was full of color without being too loud or showy; to put it simply, her brightly colored outfit was refreshing. Spending time on the quad allows for you to take a break and switch up the scenery from the classroom. I think we can all agree that it’s much more interesting to witness a stylish splash of color instead of a less than thrilling, all-gray ensemble. The quad, or anywhere outdoors on campus really, makes for great people watching (which, as previously mentioned, I can definitely vouch for), so it’s always a good idea to let your style come through by going for something a little more bold. This Fashionista did just that, and what’s more, she surely stayed warm while strolling around the quad in her winter coat, tights and boots.
If you’re planning on taking a break between classes at the quad today, keep in mind that the winter weather doesn’t have to completely hinder your personal style. Go ahead and strive to be that bit of brightness amongst the mass of neutral outfits (and don’t forget to bundle up!).
One Simple Change: This delightful look is also just the thing to cheer up any rainy day. Just make sure to switch out the combat boots for your favorite rain boots first!
