WHAT TO WEAR: Next Level Neutral

Whether you’re a fourth-year frantically juggling the excitement of a jam-packed social calendar with a whirlwind job search, or a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed first-year testing the waters in a variety of clubs to find your niche, when it comes to weather on the Hill, we all face the same upward battle: what to wear? One day our dashboards signal a frigid 5 degrees and the next afternoon we exit Stein to discover it balmy and beautiful outside. Two years ago, we struggled to stay afloat underneath the aftermath of weekly blizzards, whereas, of late, Worcester has been graced with some of the warmest temperatures that this city has ever seen. Needless to say, as students at HC, we not only climb hills but also ever-changing climates.

While it does not take long for one to appreciate the diversity of the elements as a marker of Worcester’s unique and ever-so-unpredictable charm, our chances of falling victim to a wardrobe weather malfunction remain. To evade a dress disaster, I urge you to look no further than this Fashionista, who proves that signature staples and a couple of chic add-ons can make rather than break your morning routine regardless of the forecast. On a particularly “in-between” afternoon on the Hill, in which the sun shone particularly bright while the temperatures hardly reached 50 degrees Fahrenheit, I came across this Fashionista strutting to Middle Eastern politics, looking ever-so put together while retaining a high level of comfortability necessary for class.

At a liberal arts institution as rigorous as Holy Cross, students often want to “dress for success” yet look effortless. This Fashionista succeeds in both departments while dressing with class and chicness in mind. The neutral tones of this ensemble naturally complement one another while the supple camel-colored faux fur vest acts as an aesthetically pleasing point of contrast to black distressed denim. The variety of textures feels fresh and exciting while the commitment to an approachable color palette lends itself to this Fashionista’s undeniably friendly aura.

From a distance, the main pieces of this outfit are enough to draw in a passerby. However, this Fashionista proves that delicate accessories and a flash of skin are enough to take the look from neutral to next level. One of the arguably most fabulous moments in this ensemble? An eye-catching, unique cut out in the Fashionista’s otherwise simple, lightweight long sleeve. A thin leopard belt provides texture, functionality, and expresses the Fashionista’s sassy style and free-spirited nature, while ripped jeans and black booties suggest an element of unexpected grunge that feels carefree.

In essence, this Fashionista proves that when it comes to deciding what to wear in the Worcester elements, opting for signature pieces is sure-fire. Touches of leopard or a little bit of distress will only add to the delight and the expression of your chic self.
