WHAT TO WEAR: Midterms

What to Wear

For most, February means 28 days of winter’s final icy wind, Valentine’s love drifting softly in the air and an overall happy comfort with the start of the New Year. February at the University of Michigan, however, is a totally different story. With the end of classes only two months away, February is the time for tests, papers and of course, your favorite: midterms. While the overload of mid-semester due dates can be burdensome, there is no better tactic to fighting off stress than with some well thought out sartorial choices.

After spotting this Fashionista hard at work preparing for her latest assessment, I couldn’t help but notice all of the great pieces she had chosen to create her exam ensemble. First she wears an adorable striped gray cardigan with an angled bottom. The simplicity and comfort of a go-to cardigan is a perfect way to stay cozy during exams and allow your mind to stay in check without compromising style.

She also layers a white lace tank under her sweater, along with an American Apparel purple scarf. What makes this outfit so perfect for midterm exams is without a doubt the layering. When it comes to large auditoriums and other test taking sites, none of us are temperature psychics— you never know if the auditorium will be icy cold or blazing hot. Dressing in layers for exams leaves out the temperature guesswork and, in turn, an unneeded stress.

And to top off the wonderful layering and comfortable stripes, this Fashionista chose a gorgeous pair of rust colored pants with a durable pair of combat boots. Sometimes too much comfort can get in the way of a full functioning brain, so ditch the yogas and sweats for something a little more polished— such as this Fashionista’s comfortable, yet bold pair of pants. And her combat boots are the perfect choice for trekking through the snow in style.

When thinking about midterms, stress is probably one of the first things that comes to mind. With papers and exams and just homework in general, the last thing we have on our minds is what to wear. However, choosing looks that make you feel comfortable and confident will help improve your mental well-being and your test scores. So this midterm season make sure to add a stylish outfit to your mid-semester to-do list!

One Simple Change: Centering the outfit on the adorable striped cardigan, for a perfect birthday party look try exchanging the white tank and scarf with a silky purple blouse. And as much as I love the brown pants, sometimes minimalism says more. So throw on a classic pair of dark blue jeans and you will be ready to party!
