The spring semester has arrived and our classes are under way, which means a fresh set of faces. Whether your new professor is laid-back or extremely terrifying, meeting with the person that ultimately has the overall say in your grade is something that causes every college student at least a little bit of anxiety. Office hours are a perfect time to start building some type of relationship. Even though it may be easier to hide in the back row of a lecture filled with three hundred students, personally introducing yourself to the professor will show that you actually care and are engaged in what is going on in his class.
As Harlan Hogan states, “You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” We all worry about doing and saying the right thing. Another way to make sure your meeting goes well is to dress appropriately. As you enter into your professor’s office, what you wear is one of the first things that will be noticed. I know, we are all told that “it’s what’s on the inside that matters.” Yes, this may be true, but it is also imperative to dress the part as well. Don’t show up in sweats and the T-shirt you wore the night before. Putting in the effort to look like you didn’t just roll out of bed goes a long way.
This Fashionisto’s outfit is perfect for meeting with a professor. With his emerald cardigan layered over a navy turtleneck he looks put-together and ready to astound any type of teacher. I love the way that there is an element of sophistication to the outfit without being completely overdressed. A cardigan is a great way to do this. You don’t want to be so dressed up that you look like the professor; this Fashionisto’s look is a perfect balance of both casual and professional.
My personal favorite part of this outfit is the subtle personal touches he added. He stands out and enhances the outfit by adding a vintage pocket watch, round-rimmed glasses and a Mickey Mouse watch that is a replica of one he had when he was little. These items not only make the outfit look unique, but they are also great conversation pieces. These fun accessories bring the entire outfit together. There is no doubt that this Fashionisto is “dressed to impress!”
One Simple Change: The turtleneck under his cardigan is a perfect and professional look for a cold day. Switch it out for a graphic T-shirt for a more laid-back look.
