In the journalism department here at UGA, we’re always just a little ageist when it comes to describing professors; our first questions when inquiring about a class may or not have to do with the fact that half of our professors still remember when printing required moveable typefaces (I’m kidding. Mostly). But before you go judging us for judging, it’s helpful to know what kind of atmosphere you’re walking into, because the know-how for our profession has gone through such dramatic transformation in the last ten years that’s it’s just a good rule of thumb to know if you’re committing to a semester of theory or how to best promote via Twitter.
What doesn’t change at all is the respect factor that comes with engaging with a professor, and this week’s Fashionista put the perfect spin on her rustic cowboy boots to keep her look classic and conservative.
Taking cues from a 1950s sweater girl, this Fashionista’s white collared navy sweater is effortlessly sophisticated. Paired with dark jeans, the sweater maintains comfort and keeps the stuffy primness at bay. Try Alice + Olivia’s collared sweater for a spot-on replica or this pink and red one from Urban Outfitters for a different color set. Finishing off this look with well-worn cowboy boots that would make any Georgia girl proud and a olive wool coat, there’s almost no room for the meeting not to go well. Especially with the subtle gold chain around the collar, like this chunky one from Looksy, this week’s Fashionista nailed the fine line between trendy and professional.
One Simple Change: To switch this from being professional ready to a little more laid-back chic, try substituting those jeans for a fun skater skirt like ASOS Hearts and Bows maroon mini or Sparkle & Fade’s Vegan leather one. You’ll certainly be able to highlight your shoes—like this week’s cowboy boots—and a little more leg than you’d be likely to show your professors.
