You’re crazy about him, so naturally you want his parents to be crazy about you. Meeting the parents is a crucial step in any relationship. If they fall in love with you then it will only help to convince your already smitten boyfriend that you are a keeper! Since true Fashionista’s dress to impress every day, this should be a piece of cake.
The key is to pick out a timeless piece that is well put together and polished, but at the same time, doesn’t look like you are trying too hard. Even though a certain trend may be all the rage in Paris, that does not mean that his parents are going to like or appreciate it. Leave your trendier pieces at home. Parents want their son to end up with the “naturally beautiful” girl next door, not the “Is their an actual person under all of that makeup and sequins?” Barbie.
I would be willing to bet that after meeting this demure Fashionista, her boyfriend’s parents are already hanging up a framed picture of the two of them on the mantel. Her look is classic and modest, but still being vibrant and well accessorized. What mother wouldn’t love a girl in a lovely lace dress? This just further proves my point that day dresses are a must-have for your wardrobe. They can be dressed up or down and you always look like a million bucks.
This Fashionista clearly knows that when accessorizing you should always take off the last thing that you put on. Adding earrings to this outfit would make it a bit cluttered and overwhelming, which is why she left them at home and shifted the focus elsewhere. Her necklace, which was purchased on Canal Street in NYC perfectly complements her Tory Burch cross-body bag. I love that she added a splash of orange through her accessories to add a pop to her navy colored dress. I am also confident in the fact that any mother, especially the Irish ones, would be charmed by her classic Claddagh ring.
The boots. They are to die for and I could not be more obsessed. I haven’t been able to find them online, but I did tweet a photo of the boots to Nordstrom and they are currently trying to locate them. Hopefully they help so we can all purchase them and live happily ever after in boot heaven. I will keep all of my fabulous Fashionistas posted regarding this crisis.
The main thing to remember when meeting the parents is to be confident. They want their son to be happy, so if you’re doing that then you have nothing to worry about. Accessorize with your contagious smile and they’ll consider you part of the family in no time!
One Simple Change: Heading out with your boyfriend afterwards? Swap out the boots for a pair of kitten heels, like these from Macy’s, and you are all set for a casual date night.
