Before Google, there was the library. If you ever wanted a question answered, it meant searching through shelves and flicking back and forth between the index pages and contents of a book. During my studies–I bet yours, too–I had to write a number of essays, which meant I spent a few hours in the RMIT library, flicking through books and looking for references. I figured, though, if I’m going to spend hours with my nose in a book, I might as well look the part!
When I bumped into this Fashionista, I loved how she epitomized that very library-suited look I thought about while I studied. Her outfit–all at once–was adorable and tough. She instantly made me think of a chic and grunged up version of my old school uniform. Although universities are free-dress, I loved how this Fashionista’s outfit still had a schoolgirl vibe. She was like a high-school student, all grown up. She maintained all of the elements of a uniform, but she had her own cool take on them. For instance, instead of a button-down shirt, this Fashionista chose a white crew-neck top to pair with her check skirt. Cher from Clueless, anyone?
Even the traditional pair of black leather school shoes were upgraded. I simply adored this Fashionista’s lace-up heeled boots! Her entire outfit summed up all of the changes that I wanted to make to my high-school uniform. I would have loved to swap my standard flat pair of leather T-Bars for a rad pair of kicks, like this Fashionista’s. A cute pair of boots can easily act as a stylish step-up at the library, when you reach for a book on the top shelf.
I thought that her denim jacket was a great addition for a library-bound outfit, as well. I find that the library is either really cozy or really cold. No one wants to be shivering between the shelves or fanning their textbooks, rather than studying them! Bring a layering piece, like this Fashionista’s denim jacket, to the library to keep you warm, while the air conditioner blasts. I loved how this Fashionista’s bag was an old-fashioned canvas backpack. How’s that for a library-chic accessory?
One Simple Change: Now that the mercury is starting to drop, this Fashionista could swap her denim jacket for a wool duffle coat to keep warm during the cold weather. Judging by this Fashionista’s quirky style, I bet she could easily pull off a coat in a bright hue!
