WHAT TO WEAR: It’s The Freakin’ Weekend

June 8th, 2015 at 2:00am

This past weekend in Tallahassee has brought about some of the best weather we will probably see all season. Since Florida, ironically named the “Sunshine State,” tends to rain a greater part of the summer, Seminoles take advantage of every ounce of sunshine we actually get. Summer semesters are fairly quiet on campus as the majority of students head off to do internships or go home for break. However, when skies clear on Saturdays and Sundays those that are remaining pack up to go to the pool, gather their friends for the beach or head to Lake Ella for a picnic with a scenic view. Weekend attire on days like these requires a little more skin in order to stay cool, and a bright vivid color or print that reflects the warm summer sun. While most are grabbing their denim cut-offs and bathing suit tops, I thoroughly enjoyed this Fashionista’s take on the summer “go-to” outfit.

What caught my eye first were her ethnic printed shorts. Don’t get me wrong—blue jean shorts are a personal love of mine, and a basic staple in every woman’s closet. Be that as it may, soft shorts have hit the fashion world and I don’t foresee them leaving anytime soon. Instead of relying solely on dresses or blouses for a pop of printed magic, one now has a statement option like they never before had with their shorts. It allows the Fashionista the comfort one craves during the weekend. While these shorts can be dressed up for weekday wear, they also act as a nice casual piece that one can wear on weekend adventures and still remain functional.

In addition, keeping with the natural relaxed day-off look, this Fashionista chose to pair her statement piece with a basic white crop top and gladiator sandals. This lends quite nicely to the Tallahassee weather without the outfit suffering from looking too lazy. With that said, she also adds a nice mixed element necklace to add some flare to the white crop top. To top off the look, she adds a pair of classic clubmaster style sunglasses which complete her effortlessly fashionable weekend style.

One Simple Change: After a day of fun outdoor exploring, many college students have nighttime activities lined up for Friday and Saturday evenings. In a rush to a concert or open mic night event one could ditch the crop top and sweater for a cool graphic T-shirt and platform shoes in order to obtain the same casual chic from the day but with a little twist.
