WHAT TO WEAR: Internship

Ah, internships. A college student’s first glimpse of what their post-graduation work life will be like (well, sort of). While some students may not have had as great an experience as I did this summer, I was lucky enough to be chosen as the marketing manager at a trendy boutique in Evanston, 522 Envy. A small business, 522 Envy allowed me to see the ins and outs of what it takes to market in the fashion industry and I now know that this is my calling. If you’re like me though, I often struggled with finding work-appropriate clothing that was still cool and chic enough for the summer. When I spotted this Fashionista on campus, I couldn’t help but admire her perfect summer internship ensemble.

This Fashionista stuck with a traditional “business-casual” look, but gave it an edge and made it her own. Let’s start with her cropped jacket-blazer. How cute is this?! It’s short and light enough to rock during the summer, but professional enough to rock in the office as well. She paired it with a simple yet girly white lace blouse that brought out the black in the jacket too. Winner winner, chicken dinner.

Sticking with the basics, she coupled her lacy-edgy combo up top with a classic pair of skinny fit pants. Made of stretchy polyester and nylon rather than denim, these bottoms are breezy and comfortable for work. No sweat stains for me, please! To finish off the look, she paired the outfit with a strappy pair of black wedges and simple jewelry to look as professional as possible.

One Simple Change: Headed to drinks with coworkers after a long week of work? Take this look from internship to weekend wear by swapping out the blazer with a leather jacket instead. Throw on a big statement necklace and some lipstick, and you’re ready for a night out on the town!
