WHAT TO WEAR: Internship

Summertime for college students no longer means days spent lounging by the pool doing absolutely nothing but turning five shades darker and reading fashion magazines. College gals have to ditch the lazy days of summer, trade in bikinis for blazers and get an internship.

Internships are really daunting. Not only are they usually 9-5 jobs, occupying your entire day and leaving little time for a personal life, but there’s also the issue of what to wear. You don’t want to be the girl who shows up in heels and a blazer on her first day when the dress code calls for business casual (heavy emphasis on the casual — no one told you jeans were O.K.!) or the one who wears a dress that’s way too short and more appropriate for the beach. Internships call for early mornings and long days, so comfort is another very important factor to consider.

So what’s a girl to do?

Luckily, I spotted this Fashionista out and about earlier this week on her way home from her internship. She maintains a very comfortable and cute look while remaining completely office-appropriate for whatever your internship dress code may be.

Details are all the rage, and this pretty periwinkle top has some adorable eyelet accents at near the bust. Eyelet totally spices up any simple shirt and makes something very normal turn into something very fun. Our Fashionista loves this top because it’s extremely comfortable, but looks like she put some thought into her outfit.

This Fashionista is lucky to work in an office with a very business causal dress code. She’s allowed to wear jeans, so she picked a simple dark wash pair of skinnies. If you’re internship doesn’t allow denim, go for some fun patterned pants. A printed pair would look adorable with flowy top like this one and add even more interest to the look.

Shoes are a tough one in the internship world — no longer are our cute sandals and flip flops deemed acceptable attire. We must trade them out for more office appropriate footwear! No better choice than a simple pair of flats. This pair go with literally everything.

Finally, for going to-and-from the internship, this Fashionista adds her favorite pair of sunglasses. Not only do they add a cool-girl vibe to the whole look, but they shield your tired eyes from the outside world. It’s a win-win!

One Simple Change: Going out to dinner with girlfriends after a day at the office? Swap flats for funky heels and throw on some statement earrings and volia! You’re ready for a night out.
