Summer internships are absolutely crucial in order to gain industry experience. Because there are only so many weeks in the summer to make a great impression, it is essential that you make an impact from the second you start to the second that you finish. A great place to start would be with your outfit. It is important to look clean and polished, but there is definitely a little bit of wiggle room to let your personality shine through. If you look put together, people take you more seriously, which transcends to the perception of what responsibilities your boss will think that you can handle.
This Fashionista is wearing an outfit that would be appropriate for a creative internship in the city. She works in downtown Minneapolis, the hub of business men and women, where people are dressing to impress every corner you turn. Her outfit is stylish, yet conservative enough that she is not going to draw negative attention. She is sporting a grey striped maxi dress and a black cardigan to cover her shoulders. Her tan tote bag is perfect for transporting documents to and from work. Her red lip is accentuated with a topknot pulling the hair out of her face.
Moving on to her accessories, I can not get over how perfectly put together her hands look. The matte black polish with a gold accent nail looks so chic. On top of that, her rings perfectly complement her polish. It is little details like these that can completely make or break a look, and this Fashionista is doing it right.
In my opinion (especially as a former shoes salesperson at Nordstrom), the right shoes can definitely make or break the outfit. This does not mean that they need to be the most avant garde pair to strut across the office, but they need to accentuate the outfit while also being comfortable. There is nothing worse than a pair of heels that kill your feet by noon. I would recommend the “Chelsea Pump” by Cole Haan. These heels have a classic look and slight platform, but the best part is that they are made with NIKE air technology, making them super comfortable. Another great option if you are not a heels girl would be the “Caroline” flat by Tory Burch. There is elastic all around the opening to the shoe, so they hug your foot like a glove.
