One of the perks about going to Marist College is its proximity to New York City. Because of this, there are amazing opportunities for us to take advantage of internships and gain experience in our potential career fields. This is especially the case with fellow fashion students, and not only do my peers love the chance to learn about the fashion industry, but also the chance to dress for the occasion. This Fashionista excels in an outfit that’s anything but a typically office look. As a fashion intern she stays true to herself and the atmosphere of her office. This outfit makes a memorable statement that will get you noticed for all the right things as long as your work lives up to your fashion sense.
To make this look your own, search for basic pieces that aren’t so ordinary. A pretty blouse in a bright color will give your look an on-trend focus. This Fashionista chose a bright and universally flattering cobalt blouse from H&M. Find one in Pantone’s color of the year, radiant orchid. You’ll look great and you’re sure to impress your coworkers with your attention to fashion.
Leather has been everywhere for the past few seasons and it seems like it’s here to stay. The trick to making it office appropriate is all in the silhouette. An A-line or pleated option like this Fashionista’s from Miss Selfridge, adds a feminine touch that avoids looking too harsh or edgy. If your office is not so fashion-forward, choose a different fabric to tone down the look. Keep your look streamlined with black tights and black wedge booties that cut a clean, polished line. Let your eye for detail shine through with great accessories, including a textured bag, bangles and a statement necklace.
It’s always important to make sure that, first and foremost, your outfits for interning and working correspond with your office’s culture. If you’re going into finance, chances are you’ll have to be in a traditionally professional look. If you’re in a more creative field, integrate your personality into your outfits where you can. This Fashionista’s look is bold, fun and totally representative of her sense of style. Even if you have to dress in a uniform remember that there are always ways to be yourself!
One Simple Change: For a great girls’ night out, switch the blouse for a bold graphic T-shirt. A swipe of bright red lipstick and some studded shoes will have you ready to party all night long.
