WHAT TO WEAR: Holiday

What to Wear

Christmas commercials have likely been gracing your television since the day after Halloween, and the lines for visits with mall Santas have been extending all month long. It may feel like the fall semester of college just started, but let’s face it: the holidays are upon us. As your calendar fills up with numerous special occasions like family dinners and friend-filled Christmas parties, you will probably find yourself scavenging your closet for the perfect thing to wear for each event. Sure, sure, we all know the standard little black dress is a holiday must-have, but what’s a girl to wear for a slightly more informal happening? Allow this Fashionista’s ensemble to serve as an early gift of inspiration!

One thing I absolutely love about the holiday season is the notable color scheme, and I think this Fashionista does a terrific job of capturing it without looking like a Christmas tree. First of all, her burgundy pants are a cool alternative to Rudolph red, and they match her lipstick quite well. If you’ve read some of my other posts, you’ve probably picked up on my adoration for color contrasting, and I think this is the golden opportunity to point out that contrasting does not have to involve extremely bright colors.

This Fashionista, for example, contrasts her deep burgundy pants with tones of black and gray, giving her look a dark vibe with a subtle hint of color. The pattern on her long sleeve shirt really draws attention to her outfit, as its unique use of lines adds even more drama to her look.

To really make these bold lines stand out, she color coordinates with a pair of black ankle booties. She finishes the look with a geometric midi ring, keeping accessories minimal yet interesting. The overall look is both sophisticated and festive without seeming overdone, making it the perfect outfit for holiday shopping or a small get-together with friends.

One Simple Change: For a casual date night look, accessorize with your favorite pair of long earrings and a burgundy handbag. You can also add a black cardigan to escape the cold.
