WHAT TO WEAR: Graduation

June 24th, 2015 at 2:00am

ConGrads! You made it! It is never too early to start thinking about what to wear to your graduation. It can be stressful, nerve-wracking and definitely overwhelming. Whether you are trying to finish all the paperwork for school or write up your senior thesis, planning your outfit ahead will for sure get you excited about graduating and get glamorous pictures on the day of.

Hats and gowns will only be half of your outfit. Here at Santa Clara University, our graduates and their guests had to sit outdoors on a field for three hours straight with no shade whatsoever—might I mention, the temperature reached 90ºF on that day. Having that extra layer of hat and gown will definitely make you feel that burning heat, so what you wear underneath the gown will matter because you will not want to wear extra clothing.

This Fashionista looked gorgeous on her graduation. She wore a pair of large golden teardrop-shaped earrings with a long-sleeve white dress to go with her grad cap and gown. Gold matched her tassel, and white matched her stoles. Everything she wore went well with her graduation accessories. To complete her outfit she wore a pair of black high-heeled ankle-strap sandals.

She said that the key is to know beforehand what color your stoles and gowns will be. According to what your major is, you might be given different accessories. For example, civil engineers at Santa Clara University are given hardhats instead of a typical square graduation cap, and accounting majors are given green visors. Before you decide what to wear, ask around to know what you will be given. She had both a light blue and red stole, so she decided on a white dress that matched both.

One Simple Change: Try doing something different with your hair for graduation celebrations. Even if it’s just curling the ends or straightening it, it will make you stand out from the old you. Let the world know you are ready for a change and the future.
