WHAT TO WEAR: Formal

Coco Chanel might have put it best when she said, “Women think of all colors except the absence of color. I have said that black has it all. White too. Their beauty is absolute. It is the perfect harmony.”

The classic color pairing has long been favored by the chic and classy everywhere. It is nearly impossible to go wrong when you stick to basics like this, and it gives fashionable individuals the opportunity to subtly experiment with accessories without straying too far from a traditional look.

But that is not to say that black and white has to be boring. This Fashionista takes advantage of the formality of these colors in her shift dress and pearls. The dress itself is a color-blocking style that flatters her figure and elongates her legs. She ties in the colors with her long strand pearl necklace that is reminiscent of the flapper style of the ’20s. She modernizes the look with taupe polka-dot wedges.

To glam up her outfit, she wore a white and gold kate spade new york watch. She also picked a rose gold and crystal Michael Kors padlock bangle. Her lips were tinted a summery shade of fuchsia, and she gave her hair beachy waves.

One Simple Change: While black and white can look very formal, it can also be dressed down without losing its sophistication. Try swapping out the wedge shoes for a metallic sandal, and the pearls for delicate layered necklaces, or even a vibrant scarf, for a casual summer or brunch look.
