Finals week is now upon us, we’re hitting the home stretch! While some of us are elated and glad the semester is coming to a close, there are some of us (myself included) that will be sobbing on the couch watching Girl Code with our trusty tub of Ben & Jerry’s, exhausted and overwhelmed at the amount of work that still has to be done.
Finals week brings out the worst in all of us. From the caffeine-deprived snarkiness, to the zombie-like symptoms of all-nighters, there are many of us that will commit the worst crime of all – sweatpants! Oh say it ain’t so!
Well, this Fashionista is here to remind us that there are other style options that are not sweats. There’s still hope for us overachievers, as she clearly demonstrates.
The winter season brings about lush furs, dazzling jewel tones and sparkles galore. Our Fashionista’s rhinestone studded tights give her outfit just the right amount of luxe. Try pairing them with an oversized sweater and some boots for an easy outfit for that pesky 7:45 final exam. A hint for keeping your feet extra toasty this season? Wear some knee high socks that show just above the boot.
Another hint for beating the frigid Kent tundra? Layers, layers, layers! Our Fashionista wears a tighter polka-dot dress under a flowing plaid one. Don’t be afraid to mix prints, Fashionistas! One way I would use a dress as a layer is wearing a waffle knit thermal shirt under a sleeveless dress. Super easy, right?
One of the most sought-after jackets of the fall was the army green parka with leather sleeves. I find that the leather element gives the jacket an overall sophistication, compared to a basic army green military jacket. The color blocking of black leather against the green makes the style very fashion forward. Since mixed prints are in, this jacket poses the question – why not mixed textures, as well?
And as I always say, the best accessory is a handmade one! Come learn how to knit a scarf of your own at Knitting for Those in Need, a charity knitting group at KSU. You get to help out the needy this holiday season while learning a pleasurable and relaxing hobby! Like us on Facebook for future meetings next semester!
One Simple Change: For your next holiday party, keep the tights and the dress, but switch the boots and socks for some oxford pumps. Add a festive necklace and you’ll be ready to rock that White Elephant exchange!
