It’s finals week at Penn State and at this point students are mentally checked out. Literally, our fried brains are just aching for summer and all its glory!
I’ve noticed that this transition from a hectic school oriented lifestyle to a more carefree summer mentality is reflected not only in our demeanor but also our dress. Everyone has switched out their leggings and sweatpants combo for breezy sundresses and shorts.
The Fashionisto I found by Old Main during finals week embodied the carefree casual look that screams summer in an American inspired outfit. After telling me that his mom inspired his unique sense of style (aw!), this Fashionisto said finals week allows him to be more fun with what he wears. Fair enough! Taking into account that there are no real classes there’s more time to come up with a cool outfit, too. If you’re a guy with an equally bold fashion sense, take notes from this Fashionisto to look ready for the break while doing some last minute studying outside.
Start off the look with a simple denim button-down over a white T-shirt. Pair with borderline crazy shorts. This Fashionisto opted for red and white stripes but it can easily be any bold print like florals or camo. Finish off the look with some statement socks and some classic Sperry Top-Siders. Don’t forget the Ray-Bans since the sun is finally out and a fun digital watch like a G-Shock to be on-time for that exam!
One Simple Change: If you want to treat yourself to a fancy dinner downtown after finals, swap out the button-down for a linen sportcoat. The look will still have pizzazz and personality but will be dressed up a bit more.
