Now I know what you are thinking. This outfit does not look like any of ones in the pictures you stalked from Coachella. Well, that is because this Fashionista is not dressed for the hottest musical festival in the nation, but rather the spring festivals that happened on college campuses across the nation during the same time. Here at Marist, we have a weekend each spring dedicated to celebrating the warm weather, the end of the semester and one final hurrah before finals. The weekend consist of Riverfest (for those 21+), Foxfest (for those under 21) on Friday, and a concert on Sunday all located right on campus along the shoreline of Hudson River.
The Fashionista pictured had the perfect twist of school spirit mixed with a touch of glamour. First, she was wearing a pair of classic dark wash jeans. While it may be tempting to wear shorts or a skirt with warm afternoon temperatures, it often gets cooler as the night goes on. For us at Marist, the breeze off the river makes jeans a must. With her jeans she paired a sheer red button-down blouse with a simple white camisole underneath. I loved the red color because while also showing off her school spirit, it has a bright cheery feeling of spring. She also had a little twist on her button-down, by tying a simple knot in the front. Try Forever 21 for a great selection of button-downs that are sure to come in your school’s colors as well.
With her blouse and jeans, the Fashionista wore a pair of brown boots with the simple detailing of a buckle. By keeping her shoes simple, it allowed the Fashionista shirt to make a loud statement. The shoes were also comfortable for any activities that may be happening at your school’s festival such as dancing, carnival rides and more! Finally, she kept her jewelry simple with stud earrings, a few silver bangles and a beautiful silver double heart necklace. I absolutely loved her necklace and it flawlessly matched the glamour red of her shirt. If you do not want to spend a lot on your accessories, Etsy is a great website to find one of kind pieces that are simple and make the statement you want. So while maybe you did make it to Coachella, make sure to make the most of the spring festival at your college. The memories you make will be ones you will keep for years after you graduate.
One Simple Change: Actually have tickets to a summer music festival? Switch out the jeans for a pair of high-waist floral patterned shorts and the tall boots for a pair of booties. Add your favorite flowered headband and embrace your inner flower child.
