As I sit in my crammed dorm room in midst of the city, I am daydreaming of camping in the California desert, listening to music and playing hippie during my April weekends. Coachella is of course what I have on the brain. Many of the Fashionistas I follow on Instagram and Twitter (models, designers and bloggers) have been going absolutely insane over these action packed weekends full of peace and everyone’s shared love for music. As it gets closer to this magic music festival, I have been seeing significantly more social media posts related to what to wear for Coachella. For all of you blessed enough to be attending I have just the answers this week.
Having an excuse to obsess over an outfit for an occasion is a Fashionista’s daily excitement. You know you are a true Fashionista when you are planning an outfit a week or more in advance. Planning outfits for Coachella though is way different. You plan for what is Woodstock of our generation, not for the city life. Maxi dresses, high-waist shorts, crop tops and any piece of denim you can find in your closet are a must for a weekend in the desert.
This Fashionista looks prepared for a night at the Coachella Stage or for a ride on the Ferris wheel. This clay colored maxi is perfect for a desert evening listening to your favorite bands. Also, maxis are great for that comfortable free feeling unlike high-waist shorts. Do not forget a decent jacket when attending any outdoor event no matter the location or season. When in the desert it can be extremely warm during the day, but when the sun sets it can become chilly. Denim jackets suffice for many weather forecasts, which make it perfect for Coachella, because who knows what Mother Nature could bring.
Lastly for my accessory queens, always have a statement piece in your getaway tote. For example, this Fashionista has two statement pieces. One being her faux cheetah hair flats and the other, her chunky necklace. Both can be mixed and matched with several other concert outfit options, which leaves room for more clothes in your bag. All of you East Coasters pick up the bare minimum for weekend living (your Volkswagen Bus and a wardrobe from the hippie days) and head out West for Coachella.
One Simple Change: Take this evening Coachella look to daytime flower child with a few simple steps. First, choose a pair of high-waist distressed shorts for the scorching sun and for the sake of your tan. Secondly, instead of a dressy flat opt for a strappy leather sandal that will stay on your foot in any mosh pit you wind up in. Lastly, head to Urban Outfitters for a flower headband. It will not only look Coachella chic, it will hide your second day hair.
