Fashionista: A devoted follower of fashion. We love anything and everything about it and can’t get enough of it. We love wearing the clothes, talking about the latest styles, learning about the designers and shopping in our favorite boutiques. Although we may have lots of other interests, our style, no matter what it might be, is a big part of who we are. We’re always thinking about fashion, and we love spending time with like-minded people.
This past week, I was lucky enough to work at Charleston’s Fashion Week and was surrounded by Fashionistas/os. A highlight for me was a luncheon where I met the legendary Fern Mallis, who is widely credited as the creator of the first New York Fashion Week in 1993. Walking through Charleston and seeing hundreds of beautiful, fashion-breathing people in the tents was incredibly inspiring.
The runways at fashion weeks aren’t the only place you can spot large gatherings of fashion-inspired people. Year after year we see celebrities and fashion icons take the fields in some of the most fabulous wardrobes at some of the biggest music festivals. We even see retailers like Urban Outfitters, Free People and ASOS catering to these events. And magazines like Teen Vogue and Elle make sure to feature young girls each festival season, donning their hippy-inspired skirts, with their head tilted back and twirling to the music. At events like Coachella and Bonnaroo, Fashionistas gather and put on their own version of a fashion show.
With plans to make it to a few festivals this summer, I noticed this Fashionista’s outfit and thought it was definitely a look worthy of a music festival. I loved her flowing cotton dress and the slouchy pullover in a soft, grey ribbed material. Something I like most is the color of her dress: blush. One of my best friends writes a blog about all things fashion and recently talked about the blush trend—it can be seen all over fashion these days. Could blush be the new black? (Well, that might be a stretch, but for the summer season I’ll be wearing more of it.)
There are two items that will always be in my closet no matter the season and those are combat boots and beanies. The boots in particular just seem to work with anything for me and I wear them all year long. This Fashionistas combat boots give her a cool, confident look and finish off an outfit that could be worn to any all day festival.
We Fashionistas/os tend to express ourselves through our fashion. Events like fashion weeks and music festivals bring the fashion community together and give us another opportunity to show our style. Enjoy this festival season and express yourself as you twirl and spin to the music.
One Simple Change: If there’s a chance of cooler weather, pull on a pair of patterned tights. There are so many options for tights these days, you’re sure to find something that works.
