It’s arguably one of the most wonderful times of the year here in Toronto and I’m not talking about back-to-school, no matter what those Staples commercials repeatedly say. It’s the time when celebrities flock up north, red carpets are rolled out and the excitement of every movie buff is raised through the roof. That’s right, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is here. And while most college students won’t have VIP tickets to the red carpet events or galas, it’s still easy to obtain a regular ticket for a screening of one of the most highly anticipated films this fall.
So whether you’re into indies, documentaries, romantic comedies or action films, there’s bound to be something to please you on the big screen. Once the movie is selected and you’ve got a ticket in your hand, it’s time to pick out an outfit.
While the stars will be rocking dressy gowns, high heels and diamond jewelry to the premiere of their films, the general film festival attendee may choose to opt for something more casual chic like this Fashionista. While you do want to look good (who knows if you’ll run into James Franco or Jake Gyllenhaal), it’s also key to dress comfortably (sweatpants are definitely out of the question). Film festivals like TIFF involve a lot of walking around and waiting in lines and the last thing you want to do during a movie is squirm around because your silk dress is riding up in all the wrong places.
This Fashionista’s a seasoned film festival attendee, so she definitely knows how to dress appropriately for a screening. Olive green is a color trend for the autumn season, as seen on the Gucci runway, and her baggy chiffon top with gold buttons creates the perfect chic look. There’s not much to pack for a move night, so carrying a vintage light crème colored cross-body bag with gold detailing is not only fashionable, but practical. You don’t want to be unnecessarily lugging around a huge hobo bag or worse — a backpack. Also adding some more gold touch to this Fashionista’s look are rings from Brandy Melville, a statement necklace from H&M and a leather strap watch from ALDO. Keeping the outfit casual is a pair of dark blue skinny jeans and simple black flats.
One Simple Change: To make this outfit after-party worthy, switch the jeans for a pair of leather leggings and flats for some show stopping stilettos.
