WHAT TO WEAR: Faux Fur

With four inches of snow on the ground, winter is officially here. What better way to keep warm than by wearing fur? Yes! Fur is back in style (although for Anna Wintour it was never out). Looking through my Instagram feed, just about every street style blogger is donning fur this winter. Designers including Fendi, Michael Kors and Jean Paul Gaultier have been sending fur down the runways for a few seasons now. In fact, in honor of Karl Lagerfeld’s 50th anniversary with Fendi, he created the brand’s first ever couture collection and turned it into a fur extravaganza.

When the wind chill takes temperatures into the negatives, it can be hard to find motivation to stay stylish. Bundling up in comfy sweat pants, tall fuzzy boots and a marshmallow puffy coat would keep anyone warm. But where is the fun and style in that?  I found these two Fashionistas on campus and I just had to take their pictures. Of course, they are wearing faux fur, but they look absolutely stunning. Liz chose to wear a soft and fluffy blue fur that she got from fast fashion leader, Zara. Pairing it with a patterned blanket scarf keeps her warm and stylish. Staying on trend, Liz showed off her cut-off jeans featuring asymmetrical bottoms with a raw edge. To complete the look, this Fashionista added silver shimmering pointed toe booties. She will definitely stay warm and stylish this cold winter.

Brandi chose a more course and textured faux fur that she got from The Limited. Keeping the rest of her ensemble simple helped turn this gorgeous white fur into a statement piece. The wind in Pittsburgh can make a decent day, turn unbelievably cold. This Fashionista pulled her hair into a top knot to keep the wind from hiding her flawless makeup. Jeffree Star lipstick in Celebrity Skin, complements her beautiful features. The ripped jeans and Steve Madden booties with a fringe tassel give this look some edge.

Regardless of how cold it gets outside, these Fashionistas will stay warm and trendy. They aren’t afraid to stand out. There will always be controversies about wearing fur. Luckily, today there are resources to search for companies using sustainable practices. If you chose to wear fur, make it bold and make it a statement.
