WHAT TO WEAR: Fall

Being stylish in sweltering heat is no easy task. During the summer it’s one thing, because at least the whole country is simultaneously miserable in our sweat-stained trend pieces. However, when the first pumpkin-spice-scented breeze signals that it’s time to take your sweaters out of storage, Florida misses the memo. Floridians are people too, we love fall just as much as the next guy. We try our best to be festive, we do, but it’s a bit hard to eat yourself into a food coma on Thanksgiving while simultaneously having a heat stroke.

Because of our unfortunate mono-seasonal weather, those of us in the southeast have to get a bit creative. This Fashionista shows a prime example of a “Floridian fall” outfit. She keeps cool in her romper, but her booties and shades of brown neutralize the otherwise summery ensemble. Between her “I woke up like this” hair that even Serena Van Der Woodsen would swoon for, and her pretty pink stained lip, she looks effortlessly cool. Details like her delicate lace bralette and tortoise shell sunglasses are key to looking put-together. As a fellow Florida native, I have a great appreciation for this outfit and the fact that she looks so fresh.

The key to this outfit is definitely those killer booties. Any Fashionista knows that shoes can make or break an outfit. Booties are essential for a fall wardrobe, I personally fell in love with these Steve Maddens that are a similar taupe color to our featured Fashionista’s pair, only these have an edgier feel. They’re basically an outfit in themselves. This Fashionista’s barely-there lip color is enviable as well. Steal her look with a sheer lipstick applied with a fluffy eyeshadow brush to make it look a bit diffused.

One Small Change: If you don’t already have a go-to romper, this Nasty Gal example is an awesome color (and on sale!). Vamp up the look with a cool smoky eye and you’re girl’s night out ready.
