Winter break is coming to a close and it is finally time to get ready for the adventures of spring semester. This means running around to the bookstore, catching up with friends about holiday drama, meetings with advisers and all sorts of errands. Of course, we all try to get it done in one day, and we need an outfit that will address this array of activities, one outfit that can go from morning to night. I ran into this Fashionista outside the theatre building as she was returning library books outfitted in the perfect errand-running attire.
The first article to notice is her huge winter coat. January is the coldest month of the year for the majority of the country. Looking at it from a few feet away, I could feel the warmth of the soft navy wool that I knew was trapping enough body heat for treks across campus. It is also important to note the contemporary unstructured look, like this one from J.Crew. Too often do we see pea coats and military-inspired designs that create that specific stuffy professional posture, but sometimes, especially on a busy day running errands, you look for that casual feel while keeping a degree of refinement.
Our Fashionista’s shoes complement this attitude of casual cool. Old riding boots with their durable sole makes sure that she’s ready for whatever the New England winter may serve, while giving her the peace of mind to run across and all around town without having to worry about sore feet. We can also see this same approach with her jeans, the old trusty pair that you would pull on without having to think about it.
As accessories go, our Fashionista is on the minimalist side, with a knit scarf to keep as much body heat as possible and round sunglasses to look cool while protecting from those harmful UV rays. She also carries a bottomless leather bag to hold her new books for the semester and mason jars of coffee to keep her energy level up.
The look here is built on laid-back pieces for an effortless style that calls to comfort all in a well put together attitude, because you never know what you’ll run into when running errands.
One Simple Change: For a casual date night, add a pop of color and go bold with the scarf like this one from Kate Spade.
